Andrea Mitchell

Andrea Mitchell is a Washington D.C.-based American TV journalist, anchor, and anchor and. Mitchell graduated from the University of Pennsylvania with a degree from the department of English literature. Mitchell began her career working as a TV and radio reporter at KYW Radio and TV in Philadelphia, KYW Radio and TV. In 1976, she joined the CBS-affiliate WDVM-TV which was based in Washington DC (then WTOP). In Washington she was named general reporter by NBC News two year later. The year 1981 saw her begin working for the White House and became chief Congress correspondent in 1988. Mitchell was appointed the chief White House correspondent in 1992. and Chief Foreign Affairs Correspondent at NBC News. Mitchell hosted and participated as panelists on the TV program Meet the Press. She was on the panel of the 1988 presidential debates which pitted George Bush against Michael Dukakis. Mitchell is married to Alan Greenspan former chairman of the Federal Reserve Board. Mitchell won the Goldsmith Career Award in Journalism in 2005 from the John F. Kennedy School of Government. The Radio-Television News Directors Association awarded Mitchell Leonard Zeidenberg the award in 2004 for her role to protect First Amendment Freedoms. Mitchell was the first journalist to report on White House stories for NBC News during the time of Ronald Reagan in office from 1981 to 1988. Mitchell covered a variety of notable news reports, including weapons control, budget taxes as well as the Iran Contra scandal. Mitchell also went to many summits with the help of President Reagan with Mikhail Gorbachev.
